Dr. Athena Coustenis is Director of Research at the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS), at the Paris Observatory. An astrophysicist specializing in space exploration and planetary science, her research focuses on the study of planetary atmospheres and surfaces, particularly the habitability conditions of objects in the Solar System and exoplanets. She participates in the definition, development, and operation of space missions such as the ESA's JUICE and ARIEL missions to the Jovian system and the study of exoplanets respectively, and JAXA's MMX mission to Phobos, a moon of Mars. A. Coustenis has participated in or is currently a member of several advisory groups within the ESA, NASA, and other international organizations, contributing to the establishment of sustainable space programs and the optimization of their scientific impact. She notably chairs the COSPAR Panel on Planetary Protection and the IAU's Division F.
