International Conference on Women and Health

Our Bodies Ourselves and the Center for Women’s Health and Human Rights at Suffolk University are proud to announce that we are hosting the International Conference on Women and Health in Boston, Massachusetts, over International Women’s Day weekend, March 6-8, 2027.

The conference theme, EQUITY & ACCESS, honors the spirit of the historic 1975 Conference on Women and Health, which also met in Boston. Our Bodies Ourselves and several partners organized that conference to address numerous issues in women’s health from a feminist perspective. A global women’s health movement coalesced soon afterward.

The 2027 International Conference on Women and Health will bring together grassroots activists and experts, domestic and international speakers and attendees, to discuss current knowledge, share experiences, address the challenges of equity and access, and propose solutions to help guide the movement for the next 50 years.

Byllye Avery, founder of Black Women’s Health Imperative (United States) A healthcare activist for 50 years, Avery has left an indelible mark on the field, particularly women's health. In the 1970s, Avery's dedication led to the establishment of two centers in Florida, the Gainesville Women's Health Center, an abortion clinic, and Birthplace, a birthing center.

Codou Bop, feminist researcher and activist (Dakar, Senegal) As a Senegalese feminist researcher and activist, Codou has conducted research on topics such as religious fundamentalisms, laws and policies related to reproduction and sexuality in Francophone Africa, new trends in female migrations in Africa, cross-border economic activities of women, gender, and social protection policies, and social constructions of female aging.
